The Grade Prep/1/2 classroom is the place where the foundation for learning begins!
The school’s motto ‘TOGETHER WE LEARN’ is very evident within the classroom. By providing a supportive and inclusive environment, all students are encouraged to have a go and challenge themselves academically across all the curriculum areas. Learning tasks are planned and implemented to meet individual student learning needs. As a class, we participate in daily literacy and numeracy learning tasks. Each lesson has a clear learning intention for students. A variety of learning approaches are utilised to teach concepts and practise learnt skills including small focused groups, partner work, games and independent tasks. Students have 1:1 access to iPads and netbooks so that they can use ICT programs such as Seesaw, Essential Assessment, Sunshine Online, Razkids, and Teach the Monster to support their learning. Each day students participate in a fine motor program to build essential skills. Throughout the week, students have timetabled specialist subjects in Physical Education, The Arts – music, drama and creative arts, WellBeing, Science, MARC van and LOTE (Indonesian). The Prep/1/2 students also have an older Buddy in the Grade 5/6 classroom. The two classes meet regularly so that Buddies can participate in a variety of structured activities that teach and practise the skills of respect, care, inclusion, acceptance, responsibility and friendship. The school’s values: Respect, Responsibility and Resilience are integrated into the classroom learning program. |
